Required me to use Chip Reader???

When I attempted to use apple pay at CVS the other day, my Apple Watch recognized and authorized the transaction but then the Card Reader still required me to put my CC into the chip reader. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, Doesn't this kind of ruin the whole point of Apple Pay??

CVS has had contactless terminals for years and used to accept contactless payments, but they stopped when Apple Pay launched.

CVS is a member of the Merchant Consumer Exchange (MCX) which is creating a competing mobile payment platform (CurrentC). MCX members are contractually prohibited from accepting any other mobile payment option for a period of time. Rite-Aid and Best Buy are the only two MCX members that so far have enabled contactless payments. Target (also a MCX) member is considering enabling contactless payment sometime in the future.

If they really accepted Apple Pay, you would not have been prompted to use the chip reader.

Actually it would appear they're gearing up to receive Apple Pay as their terminals were all equipped with one of the Apple Pay symbols (wifi one).

JasonAaron87 I can tell you I encountered the same thing - went into a CVS > saw the Apply Pay symbol on the card reader > got out my iPhone > held it up and paid with my Apple Pay (heard the little bell) > when I asked the cashier if it went through, she said I had to insert my chip card...that's what her screen was telling her.

I have no doubt what you said it true however I am puzzled as to why they (CVS) would've set up their terminals with the Apple Pay equipment/symbol as I witnessed when I was in store. One can only assume they changed their minds and stance to allow it, then reneged and decided not to anymore. In any case, thanks for the information you provided which was quite helpful!

I can confirm today that CVS is accepting Apple Pay. Went into one to purchase an item and asked the employee if they accept Apple Pay as I saw the reader with the logo on the countertop. He stated that they do and that it's been working. Tried it myself and it worked!

You may want to retract some of your misinformation above.
